Do not assume all charges qualify as investment capital. Review each payment’s purpose and treatment. As of September 7, 2026, the capital figures are US$1,050,000 or US$800,000 for qualifying targeted employment area or infrastructure projects. Statutory adjustments begin January 1, 2027; confirm the amount applicable to the filing.
Budget beyond a single headline amount
Separate actual invested funds from fees and household reserves. Confirm current applicable thresholds without treating a project’s sales budget as a complete legal assessment. Hypothetical example: a geothermal-drilling contractor wants to compare qualifying capital with project, filing and relocation outlays.
Use a total-cash worksheet with qualifying investment funds, project administration, filing charges, legal work, tax advice, travel and relocation shown separately. The project documents establish what is capital at risk; invoices establish the cost of other services. This distinction matters because an investor may have enough for the required capital but not for the complete transaction.
Avoid financing fees or household expenses out of money that must remain committed to the enterprise. The practical decision is whether the funding plan leaves a documented reserve without disguising fees as capital. Recheck the applicable minimum on the actual filing date.
Retain this worksheet with the financial records, allowing the household to explain why every noncapital payment was kept outside the investment amount.
