What should a Torbay accountant bring to the port of entry, and what commonly gets left out?

THE DIRECT ANSWER

Bring the employer letter, the CPA certificate with current proof of good standing, the degree and transcript, the passport and the offer letter. Current proof of the designation should be included rather than inferred from an older certificate.

The designation is the credential, so prove it is alive

A CPA certificate issued years ago does not by itself show whether the Torbay applicant is still a member in good standing. Print the provincial body's online register entry or obtain a current letter of good standing. Bring the original certificate. The employer letter should be on letterhead, signed, and should name the profession as Accountant, describe the duties as accounting, cite the designation, state Canadian citizenship, give the term and salary, and say the position is temporary. Bring the underlying offer or contract so the letter can be checked against it. Bring the degree and transcript even if the designation is the primary basis, because an officer may ask for them, and the passport as proof of citizenship. A U.S. state CPA licence or reciprocity application can be included but is not required for TN. Any résumé submitted must describe the applicant's role consistently and truthfully.

Hypothetical example: a Torbay accountant joining a U.S. renewable-energy developer has a CPA certificate but no current membership printout. The reviewer asks for the regulator's dated confirmation, then checks that the name matches the passport and employer letter. That small sequence prevents a credential question at inspection. Put the letter first, followed by citizenship evidence, designation proof, degree support and the underlying offer, so a missing item can be found before travel rather than explained orally.
